at Greenlight Bookstore

Poet and translator Eugene Ostashevsky comes to Greenlight to present The Pirate Who Does Not Know the Value of Pi, his first major work since 2008. Ostashevsky has been called “an irrepressible poet and thinker,” (3:AM Magazine) and his work has been hailed as “wildly synthetic, rhetorically tumescent, and willfully prosaic,” (Publishers Weekly). A storm of mathematical and multilingual puns and wordplay, The Pirate Who Does Not Know the Value of Pi concerns the dialogue between an irate pirate and his prating parrot, making for an irreverent, strange comedy that also exudes a love of language. Ostashevsky is joined in conversation by author and staff writer for The New Yorker Elif Batuman. More information here.
