ALL OTHER MANUSCRIPTS
As much as we love paper, we have switched to an online submissions manager (submittable/submishmash) to save trees and facilitate our editorial process.

  • Please read the submissions guidelines carefully as they have changed substantially from last year.
  • All online submissions must be formatted as single PDF documents.
  • We still love to receive mail from our readers, authors and potential authors. Please feel free to send supplemental material by post if you wish, but be advised that in order to be officially considered by our editors, all submissions must be made through the online manager.

We will be accepting submissions of queries and/or manuscripts for books and chapbooks between June 1 and June 30, 2012, for publication no sooner than 2013. The eligibility requirements and submission instructions vary by category, so please read the guidelines closely before submitting. On June 1, 2012, we will add links here to the submissions manager.

Chapbooks (English-language)
Anyone may submit a chapbook manuscript, but preference will be given to authors who already have a relationship to UDP (via publication in 6×6, or because they have translated or otherwise contributed to books published by UDP).

Full-length Poetry (English-language)
This year we will consider book-length manuscripts only from authors previously published by the press or in 6×6 magazine (as an author or a translator), or from authors who have been in contact with a specific editor and have been invited to submit a manuscript.

Full-length Prose (English-languages: fiction, essay, hybrid, cross-genre)
Anyone may submit a query+sample (no full-length manuscripts). Please familiarize yourself with our catalog before submitting. UDP is unlikely to publish commercial or mainstream literary fiction, realist narrative or genre fiction. However, if you feel that your submission would fit well with our publishing project or a particular series, please submit a query and a 10-15 page sample, along with a short synopsis (no more than 500 words).

Translation (full-length or chapbook; poetry, prose or cross-genre)
Anyone may submit a translation chapbook manuscript or a query+sample only (500-word description and 10-15 page sample) for a full-length manuscript. Submissions should be from the translator after acquired at least verbal agreement of permission from the author.

Artist’s Books / Books by Artists
Anyone may submit a query+sample  for an artist’s book (up to 15 pages total). Please familiarize yourself with our list before submitting and be aware that we publish very few titles in this category.
